PROUDLY SERVING WISCONSIN, ILLINOIS, MICHIGAN, IOWA, AND MINNESOTA FOR 30 YEARS

Celebrating 30 Years of Craftsmanship, Innovation, and Growth

Celebrating 30 Years of Craftsmanship, Innovation, and Growth
In 1995, we opened our doors in a small, 1,500-square-foot airplane hangar with a single mission: to deliver exceptional craftsmanship, driven by honesty, hard work, and a true commitment to our customers’ success. What began as a family-run business has grown into one of the Midwest’s most trusted and respected stone fabricators, serving builders, dealers, and retailers across five states.

From the start, we believed that continuous investment in our capabilities, our technology, and our people would set us apart. Just two years after opening, we expanded our facility to 3,000 square feet and added our first panel saw to scale production. By 1999, we had expanded again to 6,000 square feet and surpassed $1 million in annual sales, building the foundation for long-term growth.

The early 2000s marked a period of transformation. In 2001, we purchased a 12,000-square-foot building and became the exclusive Corian fabricator for Home Depot in Wisconsin, achieving $2 million in annual sales. We embraced technology early, adopting LT digital laser templating and installing our first CNC router in 2002, which allowed us to deliver even greater precision and efficiency. By 2003, we were the exclusive laminate provider for over 85% of Wisconsin Home Depot stores, a milestone that reflected the trust our partners placed in us.

In 2005, we launched our first dedicated stone production line and added CNC capabilities for stone fabrication. Demand for quality stone surfaces continued to grow, and we responded by purchasing a second CNC machine in 2009 to support our expanding production for major retail and trade partners.

In 2011, we initiated a major 20,000-square-foot expansion project to keep pace with customer needs and operational growth. We continued to prioritize investment not just in equipment, but in creating an environment where our people could excel.

The year 2018 marked a significant milestone. We completed construction of a new 65,000-square-foot facility in Jefferson, Wisconsin, purpose-built to lead the industry in safety, quality, and innovation. The facility includes a climate-controlled, dust-free fabrication environment, integrated SPS systems for production management, and BACA robotic SawJets for automated precision cutting. This move elevated both our production capabilities and our commitment to providing the safest and most advanced working conditions in the industry.

As we grew, we never lost sight of our founding values: experience, dependability, safety, commitment, service, and fabrication excellence. We have celebrated team members with 10, 15, even 20 years of service, and continue to prioritize strong relationships with our employees, customers, and community.

In 2021, we became NSI-accredited, further affirming our commitment to quality and professionalism. That same year, we expanded into Iowa and Minnesota, opening a new field hub in Ankeny, Iowa, to better serve our growing trade community. In 2022, Travis McDermott joined the ISFA Board of Directors as we strengthened our leadership structure, adding director roles in HR, Finance, Operations, and Sales to position us for future growth.

In 2023, we joined the prestigious Artisan Group as its 30th member, standing alongside the finest stone fabricators in the country. Our work was also recognized in publications like ISFA’s magazine and the Slippery Rock Gazette, reinforcing our place as a leader in quality, innovation, and service.

As we celebrate 30 years, we are proud of what we have built — not just in square footage, not just in equipment, but in the relationships, craftsmanship, and trust that define who we are. We remain dedicated to growing, innovating, and improving every day, always with a focus on helping our customers succeed.

The story of McDermott Top Shop is still being written, and the next chapter will be built on the same values that got us here: relentless improvement, exceptional craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to building the future together.
